The Secretary of planning and Training for the Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia met with the Leader of the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) Mr. Jack Layton at his constituency office, the two discussed among other things the humanitarian crises in Somalia, the illegal Ethiopian occupation and war crimes committed by the TFG and the Ethiopians. Mr. Nur informed Mr. Layton about the escalating crises in Somalia and to illustrate that point, he explained recent atrocities committed by the Ethiopian troops against innocent, unarmed worshippers in a mosque in Mogadishu, engaging extrajudicial killing in a vicious and inhumane manner. Mr. Nur further notified the leader of the opposition NDP that the magnitude of the crises require an emergency response and asked the Canadian government to take a lead in aiding the 1.5 million uprooted from their homes and subjected to inhuman and dire living conditions.

During the meeting Mr. Layton acknowledged the escalating crises in Somalia and agreed that political solution is the only option and that military might hardly brings any solution. He said that he will bring forth the plight of the Somali people and the man made crises created by the Bush administration and Ethiopian presence at parliament.
Mr. Nur also attended a reception hosted on his behalf by many progressive organizations in the afternoon and had a cordial discussions with representatives of United Steel Workers, the NDP, Canadian Arab Federation, Ontario federation of labour, and representatives from Canadian Peace Alliance, Stop the War Coalition, Palestine House, Toronto and York Region Labour Council and others.
Somali Canadian Diaspora Alliance is a Coalition member of North American Somali Diaspora Network and is committed in collaboration with other coalition members of the umbrella in finding ways out of the current Somali crises. Somali Canadian Diaspora Alliances advocates the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops as a precondition for a viable reconciliation that will bring about a durable peace and development in Somalia.
